***Day 7***

Jerusalem and the Old City:

  • Hezekiah's Tunnel
  • Southern Temple Steps
  • Western Wall
  • Temple Mount
  • Roman Cardo
  • Pool of Bethesda
  • Church of St. Anne
  • Antonia Fortress
  • Via Dolorosa
  • Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Explore Hezekiah's  Tunnel, an amazing engineering feat that was dug from either end and met in the middle!  (Note:  Those who are claustrophobic may want to meet the group at the other end of the tunnel!).

File:Shiloach.jpg
This is the story of the tunnel while the axes were against each other and while three cubits were left to cut the voice of a man called to his counterpart, for there was echo in the rock on the right and on the day of the tunnel being finished the stonecutters struck each man towards his counterpart, ax against ax and flowed water from the source to the pool for 1200 cubits. and 100 cubits was the height over the head of the stonecutters.

This is the translation of the inscription found in Heziakiah's tunnel when teams of workers coming from each side met. Dated at 3000 years old, the original inscription has been removed and replaced with a replica. The tunnel stretches for the length of 6 football fields through solid rock. Amazing for our group to make our way through this tunnel which is barely the width of a person. At many points I had to bend over to make it through. Because this was a water tunnel we were wading through water that was at times up past our knees.

Gather together for a time of devotion on the Southern Teaching Steps where Jesus likely taught his own disciples.

Pray at the Western Wall.
Visit the Temple Mount,
Walk the Cardo, the ancient main street of the Old City. Once lined with shops it is now partially restored.
View the Pool of Bethesda (John 5: 1-31) where Jesus performed the Sabbath miracle
Sing a hymn in the Church of St. Anne

We will go 20 feet under the current streets of the Old City of Jerusalem to view the Litho Statos. The Roman paving stones that stood in front of Herod’s Antonia Fortress where Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate (Luke 23: 1-11).
Walk the Via Dolorosa, “the Way of the Cross,”

We will end our day at the Church of the Holy
Sepulchre which is built over and protects both the place where Jesus was crucified and buried.
